Who is Michelle?
Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Dr. Michelle Elizabeth Flaherty is a lifelong Lutheran, passionate educator, musician, and community advocate who believes in the power of music, education, and human connection to enrich lives.
Michelle earned her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Mercyhurst University, followed by a Master of Education in Educational Technology with a concentration in Digital Learning and Teaching from the American College of Education. She later earned her K–12 Principal Certification through Gannon University and, in May 2026, completed her Doctor of Education in Leadership and Administration at Point Park University
Professionally, Michelle serves as a High School Assistant Principal where she supports students, families, and educators across Pennsylvania. Her diverse educational background includes teaching preschool, special education, kindergarten, second grade, elementary STEM, and gifted education, as well as serving as a department chair and adjunct college professor. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to creating meaningful learning experiences, fostering creativity, and helping others discover their potential.
Music and ministry have always held a special place in Michelle's heart. She currently serves as the Contemporary Music Director, where she shares her love of worship through music and special services. As a certified sound healer, she also facilitates meditative sound bath experiences that encourage relaxation, reflection, and spiritual connection.
Beyond the church, Michelle teaches ukulele to a joyful group of musicians known as "We Play for Cake." Through music, laughter, and friendship, the group celebrates the healing power of community and the importance of finding joy in life's journey.
In her free time, Michelle can often be found singing, songwriting, playing ukulele or guitar, or experimenting with just about any instrument that sings or has strings. She also enjoys painting, exploring digital technology, spending time with her beloved pets, and finding new ways to bring people together through creativity and compassion.
Above all, Michelle believes that music and relationships have a remarkable ability to connect people, nurture the spirit, and remind us that we never walk through life alone.
